Veteran's Day ceremony at Washburn Tech

  • Student Leadership

Serve as a voice of the students by joining the Washburn Tech Student Activities and Advisory Board.  Each program elects representatives who share concerns, suggest improvements and organize student activities. You might help organize the Turkey Bowl or secure the speaker for our annual Constitution Day event. You also might be asked to serve as a Washburn Tech ambassador, leading tours and talking to campus guests. It is a great way to gain leadership qualities along with lasting friendships.

This advisory group meets during the lunch hour on the first Tuesday of each month. Officers are elected early in the fall semester.

Interested? Contact the dean's office at 785.670.3320.

    Veterans Day

Washburn Tech honors our veterans each November by hosting a patriotic ceremony on Veterans Day. The special event features the talents of many Washburn Tech students as they pay tribute to those who have served our country. Many of our students and instructors are veterans, so the annual ceremony holds special meaning.

    Turkey Bowl

The annual Turkey Bowl is a flag football competition that pits students from each program against one another. Scheduled on the Tuesday before the Thanksgiving holiday break, teams compete for the coveted Turkey Bowl trophy while also enjoying food, other games and a silent auction that raises money for the Care Closet, an emergency fund for Washburn Tech students.

    Toy Build

This annual tradition turns Washburn Tech into Santa's workshop. Washburn Tech students, technical instructors and staff join community volunteers and business partners to build toys for children in need during the holiday season. Each December, they craft hundreds of toys including step stools, beat box drums and hobby horses. These gifts are then donated to the local Toys for Tots program.

    student ambassador gives campus tour

    Ambassadors

Who better to talk about Washburn Tech than current Washburn Tech students! Our student leaders serve as tour guides during events such as Open House and National Technical Letter of Intent Signing Day. Our ambassadors walk campus, answer questions and host prospective students or business partners. It is a fun way to become involved!
