    Washburn Tech students strive to be the best of the best, an attitude that serves them well in SkillsUSA. SkillsUSA is a national membership association serving high school, college and middle school students who are preparing for careers in trade, technical and skilled service occupations, including health occupations, and for further education. SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers and industry working together to ensure America has a skilled workforce. SkillsUSA helps each student excel.

    National Champs

    Gold medal winners from each state competed in the SkillsUSA National Leadership & Skills Conference in Atlanta, Ga., June 24-28, 2024. Washburn Tech’s Quiz Bowl team earned bronze medals this year. This is the Quiz Bowl team’s second consecutive national award after winning silver medals in 2023. The prize-winning team consists of Zevin Para-Cremer, cabinet and millwork, Corey York, information systems technology, William Sevy, information systems technology, Alex Runnebaum, cabinet and millwork, Ethan Maldonado, automotive collision repair, Aspen Lemon, cabinet and millwork, and Wyatt Raines, automotive collision repair.

    In addition to the Quiz Bowl medal winners, Bailey Longstaff won a silver medal in T-shirt design. She recently completed Tech’s automotive collision repair program.

    The national conference attracts more than 16,000 students, teachers and business partners, and showcases career and technical education students from around the country. It is the largest gathering of America's future skilled workforce and the ultimate recognition of excellence in career and technical education.

    Washburn Tech students competed in the SkillsUSA Kansas competition April 24-26 in Hutchinson, Kan. Our competitors won 48 medals with our first place medalists qualifying to compete on the national stage in Atlanta, Ga., this June.

SkillsUSA improves the quality of our nation's future skilled workforce through the development of Framework skills that include personal, workplace and technical skills grounded in academics.

    The organization's vision is to produce the most highly skilled workforce in the world, providing every member the opportunity for career success.

    How to Get Involved

    Join the Washburn Tech chapter of SkillsUSA! Attend meetings and explore the leadership opportunities that are available. Many of our students hold district and state offices. Members also choose to participate in competitions that put their technical skills to the test.

    SkillsUSA offers more than 100 contests to its members. Competitors hone their skills, with the help of Washburn Tech instructors, and compete in the spring against other chapter members from around Kansas. Students who win at the state competition qualify to compete on the national level. The SkillsUSA Championships are held every June in Atlanta, Ga.
