Machine Tool & Welding

Bench/Saw/Drill 1

This course is a fundamental class on safety, bench work, power saws and drilling operations. The bench work section covers safety, filing and the use of hand tools. Power saw operation includes safety and blade selection. Drilling operations include the use of drill presses, safety, feeds and speeds and the selection of different drill bits.

Lathe/Mill/Grind 1

This course is a basic class on safety, machine setup, operations of lathes, milling machines and pedestal grinders. The lathe section covers safety, precision turning, knurling, drilling, treading, feeds and speeds. The milling section consists of safety, machine operation, setup, and calculating feeds and speeds. The grinding segment includes safety, grinding of lathe cutting tools, sharpening drills and how to maintain the wheels.

GMAW I

The gas metal arc welding unit is designed to teach the correct techniques to weld in different positions and joint configurations. Safety is stressed in the shop. Practice and training in the welding shop will develop the basic skills necessary to produce quality welds. Prerequisites: SMAW I.

SMAW I

The shielded metal arc welding I unit is designed to teach the correct techniques to weld in different positions and joint configurations. Safety, blueprint reading, oxygen/acetylene torch and plasma cutting will be converted. Practice and training in the welding shop will develop the basic skill level necessary to produce quality welds.

Refund Policy

Washburn Tech Continuing Education is supported by tuition funds. Sessions are scheduled, supplies are ordered, and instructors paid based on enrollment/tuition data.
