Who can take CEP courses?

Beginning your sophomore year of high school you can participate in Washburn's concurrent enrollment program. A 3.0 cumulative high school GPA is required.

Partnering schools include: Hayden, Highland Park, Seaman, Shawnee Heights, Silver Lake, Topeka, TCALC, Topeka West and Washburn Rural.

What types of courses are offered?

Course offerings vary by high school and nearly all satisfy Kansas general education requirements.

Lowering the overall cost of college

Washburn believes college should be within reach. That's why CEP courses are offered for $125 per credit hour, making it even more affordable for local students to begin earning college credit while they're still in high school. Most courses are just three credit hours, allowing you to earn college credit for about $375 per course.

Even better, required course materials are provided at no additional cost, so you won't have to purchase textbooks.

FAQs

How is CEP different from dual enrollment?

Concurrent enrollment and dual enrollment are the same. You'll earn college credits and fulfill your high school requirements at the same time.

Which CEP courses are right for me?

It might seem like you should take CEP courses in the field in which you plan to major, but this is not necessarily true. It may be more beneficial in the long run for you to fulfill your general education requirements, which will then allow you to focus on your major program once you begin attending college.

How many CEP courses should I take?

How many CEP classes are appropriate depends on many factors, including:

previous experience
personal study skills
intended major in college

Discuss your options with your high school counselor, family and possibly the teachers of the courses. Together you can determine your best schedule. Enrolling in more than nine credit hours in one semester requires Washburn approval, as well as maintaining at least a 3.0 GPA.

Will CEP courses transfer to another college?

Courses that satisfy the Kansas Systemwide General Education Framework transfer among Kansas public colleges and universities. If you plan to attend a private or out-of-state institution, check with that college about its transfer policies.

Do the grades appear on my college transcript?

Yes. Concurrent enrollment courses become part of your official Washburn transcript. The grades you earn may also be considered if you transfer to another college or university.
