Mocktails Competition Promotes Holiday Safety

November 15, 2017

WHAT: Mocktails Counterfeit Cocktail Contest

Contestants will show off their most distinguished drink development skills and try to come up with the best “zero proof” non-alcoholic “mocktail” entries. The competition will feature both an amateur division and a professional contest among pro bartenders and mixologists.

Law enforcement and celebrity judges will assess the drinks based on presentation, creativity, taste, sales pitch and pairing suggestion. First place winners in each division will win a $100 gift card, while second place winners receive $50 gift cards and third place gets $25. AAA Kansas will share the winning recipes in printed brochures and social media.

WHY: ‘Tis the season to be merry and safe! That’s the message behind this fun, creative competition, during which contestants will create mocktails that non-drinkers, designated drivers and even children can enjoy. The goal is to provide safe, alcohol-free options during the holidays to help eliminate drunk and buzzed driving.

WHEN: 2 p.m. on Friday, November 17

WHERE: Washburn Tech Conference Center – 5724 SW Huntoon St., Topeka

WHO: The event is sponsored by AAA Kansas and Washburn University Institute of Technology (Washburn Tech)

“The holiday season brings many temptations to celebrate with alcohol, which can lead, even inadvertently, to drivers getting behind the wheel when they shouldn’t,” said Jennifer Haugh, AAA Kansas spokeswoman. “AAA Kansas is pleased to partner with Washburn Tech on this Counterfeit Cocktails Contest to provide options for festive, great-tasting drinks for holiday parties that are perfect for helping keep the roads safe and free of drunk or buzzed drivers.”
