Washburn Tech to Host Fall Open House

October 18, 2017

Topeka, Kan. – Explore careers, which begin on campus and end in the workforce, at Washburn Tech’s Fall Open House from 8:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 26, at 5724 SW Huntoon St. The come-and-go event is an opportunity for prospective students, friends and family to learn about training opportunities that can lead to career opportunities.

“Washburn Tech offers 38 career programs, and visitors will have the chance to tour those labs and see our students in action,” said Kerry Norbury, associate director of admissions, Washburn Tech. “What makes this open house different is the addition of our graduates and other business partners who will be here to talk about their journeys into the workplace and how technical training has changed their lives.”

To emphasize the workforce need, especially in manufacturing, the Fall Open House includes special programming in support of Manufacturing Day from 10 to 10:30 a.m. in the Washburn Tech Conference Center. This nationwide event, typically celebrated on the first Friday in October, is designed to inspire the next generation of manufacturers. Washburn Tech’s event will feature Greg Wright, vice president and general counsel, PTMW Inc., who will describe their modern manufacturing environment and the opportunities that a career in manufacturing offers.

Both the Open House and Manufacturing Day celebration are free and open to the public. Visitors may arrive at any time during Open House hours and are not required to register for the event, although large groups are encouraged to RSVP to the Washburn Tech Admissions Office at 785.670.2200 or Kerry.norbury@washburn.edu.
