Washburn Tech Adds Commencement Exercise

Topeka, Kan. – A record-number of spring graduates is prompting Washburn University Institute of Technology (Washburn Tech) to host two commencement exercises in May. Both will be held on Thursday, May 11, in Lee Arena on the Washburn University campus.

Starting at 5 p.m., Washburn Tech students graduating from the following programs will walk across the stage: Advanced Health Care Technology, Advanced Systems Technology, Emergency Communications, Emergency Medical Technician, Health Care Technology, Machine Tool, Phlebotomy, Practical Nursing, Surgical Technology and Welding.

Beginning at 8 p.m., Washburn Tech students graduating from the following programs will be recognized for their achievements: Auto Collision, Automotive Service Technician, Building Technology, Business Bookkeeping & Accounting, Cabinet/Millwork, Climate & Energy Control Technologies, Commercial & Heavy Construction, Computer Repair & Networking, Cosmetology, Culinary Arts, Diesel Technology, Early Childhood Professional, Electrical Technology, Graphics Technology, Heavy Diesel Technology, Legal Office Professional, Locomotive Diesel Technology, Medical Office Specialist, Office Careers Technology, Technical Drafting and GED completers.

More than 600 students are expected to participate in the two ceremonies. Professional photographer Scott Stormann will, once again, be taking individual photographs of graduates. Directions for accessing his online gallery will be shared at a later date. 

Washburn Tech offers 38 career programs in one of five divisions: Construction, Health Care, Human Services, Technology and Transportation. Short-term, continuing education courses also are available along with custom courses for business and industry. Washburn Tech, which serves both high school and adult students, has an 82% graduation rate which is the highest in the state among all universities, community colleges and technical institutions.
