Washburn Tech Named a Fiat Chrysler Training Center

Topeka, Kan. – Washburn Tech is one of ten schools in the country that is now an automotive technician training center for Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA US).

FCA US, in partnership with the National Coalition of Certification Centers (NC3), has established the Mopar CAP Local program, which will build a critical stream of highly-trained technicians for FCA dealers nationwide.

“Mopar CAP Local is an elite training program that will prepare our graduates for an outstanding career path and make them highly effective on day one of employment with FCA dealers,” said Clark Coco, dean, Washburn Tech. “Two of our Washburn Tech automotive service instructors already have completed their training and will share their knowledge and expertise with students this fall. It’s a great opportunity for our students, the dealers who will hire them and those who own vehicles from this automaker.”

Eventually, Mopar CAP Local plans to train 1,000 students in more than 100 colleges each year. The program builds on the existing FCA US Mopar CAP program by providing a larger geographic footprint to serve more dealers in a highly scalable, online certification model. By completing the program, students will be certified as Mopar Level 1 technicians. FCA US designs, engineers, manufactures and sells vehicles under the Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge, Ram and FIAT brands.

According to John Fox, global director of dealer training at FCA US, “Leveraging NC3’s network of outstanding educational members and rigorous performance standards, the Mopar CAP Local program will allow FCA US to reach the corporation’s goal of more than 5,000 additional skilled service technicians by 2018.”

“The foresight and national leadership that FCA has taken toward training the next generation of skilled professionals puts it in a class of its own across all industries beyond automotive,” said Roger Tadajewski, NC3 executive director. “Combined with NC3’s colleges’ deep commitment to industry-education partnerships and industry-driven education, the Mopar CAP Local program sets a new bar in America for how training should be conducted.”
