Washburn Tech to Ink New Recruits

January 20, 2015

Topeka, Kan. – Washburn Tech is hosting its second National Technical Letter of Intent Signing Day from 8:45 until 11 a.m. on Thursday, February 19, 2015. New students for the 2015-2016 school year will take part in a signing ceremony, similar to an athletic signing, in Washburn Tech’s Conference Center at 5724 S.W. Huntoon. Students also will be able to initiate their enrollment for next semester.

Washburn Tech’s event mirrors the NCAA’s National Signing Day for athletes who commit to play sports in college. It is designed to honor students who are entering a technical field and to celebrate the dignity of work.

“Last year, Washburn Tech became the first technical institution to hold such an event and signed more than 430 students. This year, schools around the country are joining us and turning this into a coordinated national event,” said Clark Coco, dean, Washburn Tech. “Together, we are telling incoming students that we have reserved places for them and we want them. Technical education will prepare them for a strong career.”

Area business and community leaders along with several of Washburn Tech’s corporate partners will be in attendance to show support. It offers them a chance to meet their workforce of tomorrow.

Washburn Tech offers 30 career programs in one of five divisions: Construction, Health Care, Human Services, Technology and Transportation. Washburn Tech, which serves both high school and adult students, has an 81% graduation rate which is the highest in the state among all universities, community colleges and technical institutions.
