Topeka, Kan. – Washburn Tech is planting seeds for healthier eating habits. Kids in its child care facility, Little Learners at Washburn Tech, will begin putting in a vegetable and flower garden at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, April 4. The children will tend to the garden and harvest the vegetables this summer to use in their lunches.

The first plant giveaway is set for 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 5, on the west end of campus and will include broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage and kale. A second giveaway will take place on Saturday, May 10, on Tech’s campus and include tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, squash, watermelon and cantaloupe. In total, Washburn Tech’s Plant Bank is giving away 2,500 plants this spring.
