Technical Programs

Washburn Institute of Technology (Washburn Tech) provides course work in many diverse career areas. Our Career Training Programs offers over thirty diploma programs designed to provide graduates with entry-level job skills. Continuing Education offers specific, short term classes designed to provide skills to enhance existing employment. Area business and industry utilize the Washburn Tech, Business and Industry Training Department which offers customized curriculum and training for specific employee development needs. Washburn Tech also provides enrollment information, including application forms and financial assistance to postsecondary students, including scholarship opportunities. As an eligible institution, Veterans benefits, Pell grants, and Federal Family Educational Loans are available at Washburn Tech.

  • Part-Time Morning - Attend Washburn Tech from 8:00 AM until 11:10 AM
  • Part-Time Afternoon - Attend Washburn Tech from 11:45 AM until 2:55 PM
  • Full-Time - Attend Washburn Tech from 8:00 AM until 2:55 PM

Construction

  • Building Technology -Graduates are qualified for employment in the construction and maintenance of residential housing, hospitals, motels, apartment complexes, schools, and other businesses.
  • Cabinet/Millwork Technology -- Students gain the knowledge and skills necessary to plan and complete cabinetry, furniture, and millwork.
  • Commercial Construction - Learn all about commercial and heavy construction. Hands-on experience operating heavy equipment with opportunities to practice skills on commercial work sites.
  • Commercial and Heavy Construction - - Covers both exterior construction systems and interior construction systems pertaining to commercial construction.
  • Electricity, Heating & Air Conditioning - Prepares individuals to apply technical knowledge and skills for two segments: electricity and/or heating and air conditioning.

Health Care

  • Certified Nurse Aide - Students are trained to assist the professional nurse in a variety of aspects of patient care.
  • Health Care Technology - Primarily for high school students, this program prepares students in a wide range of patient care techniques. Graduates can test to be a Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) and/or a Home Health Aide (HHA).
  • Practical Nursing -Graduates have the knowledge and skills needed to practice as a practical nurse (PN) and will be prepared to take the NCLEX-PN exam.
  • Surgical Technology - Students learn the basic skills necessary to become an integral member of the surgical team and will be eligible to take the CST exam.

Human Services

  • Business Administrative Technology - Students gain the knowledge and skills that prepare them for entry-level office positions.
  • Child Care - Students gain valuable experience working with young children while learning the processes and principles of growth and development.
  • Culinary Arts - Learn the fundamental skills necessary to work under the Supervision of a chef or in a commercial kitchen. Hands-on experience in a commercial kitchen...with delicious results.
  • Legal Office Professional - Students complete projects and extensive training to prepare them for a support staff position in the field of law.
  • Medical Office Specialist - Prepares students for a support staff position as part of a medical office team.

Technology

  • Computer Repair and Networking  - Students prepare to become proficient computer service professionals and network technicians and become eligible to take industry recognized certification exams.
  • Electronic Technology - Prepares students for positions in electronic services, maintenance, and production.
  • Graphics Technology - Students complete design, photo and print projects to prepare them for an entry level position in the graphic arts industry.
  • Industrial Technology - Prepares students to repair and maintain industrial machinery and equipment such as pumps, electric motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and production machinery.
  • Machine Tool Technology - Prepares students to apply technical knowledge and skills to plan, manufacture, assemble, test, and repair parts, mechanisms, and machines.
  • Technical Drafting - Learn drafting, with traditional; tools and computer aided drafting software. Develop the skills needed for entry level positions with many industries that use technical drawings.
  • Welding Technology - Gives students the skills needed to join or cut metal surfaces and become eligible to take industry recognized certification exams.

Transportation

  • Auto Technology - Students gain technical knowledge and skills to repair, service, and maintain all types of automobiles.
  • Collision Repair - Prepares students to repair, reconstruct and finish automobile bodies, fenders, and external features.
  • Diesel Technology - Students gain the technical knowledge and skills to repair, service and maintain diesel powered equipment.
